In collaboration with the Cancer Institute of the Philippine General Hospital, the Red Van was deployed in Ternate, Cavite on July 10th and in Novaliches, Quezon City on August 26th at the request of the Ternate Municipal Office and Knights of Columbus, respectively. The Red Van is a customized mobile treatment unit donated by Johnson & Johnson (Philippines) to The Andres Soriano Foundation, and turned over to the Cancer Institute in support of its hematologic and oncologic programs.
Using the Red Van, health professionals from the Cancer Institute conducted medical consultations and cancer screening. A total of 68 patients were screened for breast cancer using mammography, ultrasound scan, and biopsy. Patients who need additional tests and treatment were instructed to go to the Cancer Institute for follow-up.
Lectures were also conducted for over 600 participants to increase awareness on cancer screening, detection, and treatment particularly for leukemia, lymphoma, breast cancer, colon cancer, cervical cancer, and pediatric cancer.
Community-based lectures and cancer screening are key components of the Foundation’s ongoing Cancer Abatement and Rehabilitation Efforts aimed at reducing cancer mortality and improving access of indigent patients to quality cancer care, treatment, and medication.
