On July 5th, a ceremonial roll-out of the Red Van was held at the Cancer Institute of the Philippine General Hospital to demonstrate how it can facilitate patient care response and support the campaign against cancer. The Red Van is a customized mobile treatment unit donated by Johnson & Johnson (Philippines) to The Andres Soriano Foundation, and turned over to the Cancer Institute in support of its hematologic and oncologic programs.
Inside the Red Van, doctors administered chemotherapy infusion to three hematologic patients as part of their ongoing care and treatment. A lecture was also conducted to brief the general public about cancer screening, detection, and treatment – particularly for leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma.
The Red Van will soon be deployed for outreach programs to communities within Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
