“Masaya ako dito. Natuto akong makipag-usap sa salitang Ingles at makisama sa iba’t-ibang tao. Pinakamahalagang bagay na natutunan ko ay ‘yung humingi ng tulong sa Diyos at magtiwala sa kanyang kaparaanan. (I am happy to be here. I learned to communicate in English and to deal with different types of people. The most important thing that I’ve learned is to depend on the God’s help and trust His ways.)”, Jorimy said when we visited him while he is having his on-the-job training, in Nec Tokin Electronics, Laguna.

Jorimy Jardinero, one of the 41 ASF Technical- Vocational Scholars, is nearing completion from his one-year and a half on-the-job training at Nec Tokin Electronics in Laguna. Born and raised in Brgy. Manamoc in Cuyo, Palawan, one of ASF’s assisted communities located in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA), he grew up in a simple lifestyle in the island. During his free time, he used to help his father in Seaweeds Farming. Their community relies heavily on coastal resources- seaweeds farming and fishing are two of the main sources of income. Children of fisher folks who cannot afford to go to school usually takes over as they grow older.

Everyone in his department is telling us that he is a diligent, quiet person, and he was never absent nor late for work.  “Ang scholarship na ito ang nagbago sa pananaw ko sa buhay. Laking pasasalamat ko na nabigyan kami ng napakagandang prebilehiyo at pagkakataon na ipagpatuloy namin ang aming mga pangarap. (This scholarship assistance changed my perspective in life. I am so grateful that we were given this opportunity to pursue our dreams.)”, explained Jardinero.

With an aim to provide a wide range of opportunities to youth in underserved communities, ASF’s Technical-Vocational Scholarship Program is being offered to deserving high school graduates and out-of-school youths in assisted communities within municipalities of Cuyo and Agutaya in North Eastern Palawan.
